Medical Weight Loss

At CH Medical the process of managing patients with increased body weight begins with  a complete evaluation of the general health and metabolic function of the individual patient in order to find out why exactly their body weight is higher than ideal. In many cases we find medical conditions such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, thyroid abnormalities etc. which we absolutely must treat first in order to achieve and then maintain desired body weight.  Sometimes we recommend  medications (only FDA approved), especially in the initial stage of weight reduction. We consider using medications at this initial stage in order to normalize severe metabolic disturbances related to the increased body weight such as elevated insulin level, inflammation, elevated stress hormones, fluctuating glucose levels causing cravings etc.    Some medications that we would prescribe include the following : Wegovy® (Semaglutide), Saxenda® (Liraglutide), Contrave (Naltrexone/Bupropion), others. We are trying to limit the use of medications to the very initial stages of the weight reduction process until the metabolism of the patient adjusts to healthy body weight.  We also strongly recommend obtaining a DXA body scan to analyze body composition, visceral fat etc., in order to obtain a baseline and follow objectively the body transformation of our patients as they lose weight.

We help our patients  achieve long term sustainable healthy lifestyle changes and work patiently with the patients as long as it takes. We also use  health coaches for day to day support and health advise.

To people with uncomfortably high body weight  who have failed multiple times to lose weight by diet and exercise we sincerely recommend seeking professional help. There are different fad diets most of which really do not work and actually many people eventually end up gaining more weight once they get off the diet. When we restrict our caloric intake our body thinks we are starving and therefore goes into a defensive mechanism and decrease our metabolic rate in an effort to not burn any additional calories.  Ultimately, this results in significant difficulties losing weight despite further calorie restriction.  Dieting becomes less and less effective, a plateau is reached and further weight loss becomes impossible for most people. On a positive note, millions of people have achieved and maintained lifelong ideal body weight  thus proving that weight reduction is attainable with proper help and perseverance.
